Description: | From Murrell Home May Day Celebration Website: The George M. Murrell Home in Park Hill is hosting a May Day Celebration Weekend on May 2-3, 2014. On Friday, May 2, the site will hold its 4th Annual Education Day for elementary and secondary schools. On Saturday, May 3, the museum will present a May Day Celebration and Lawn Social for the public.
On Saturday, May 3, the public is invited to a May Day Celebration and Lawn Social that will evoke the beauty and color of Park Hill during its golden age in the 1850s. The event will be held from 12:00am-4:00pm. Living historians in period dress will mix with the public in a social function reminiscent of the social galas held at the Murrell Home. The public are encouraged to bring their own picnic basket lunches and quilts and join the reenactors between 12:00-1:00pm for a picnic on the lawn. From 1:00-4:00pm, activities abound, including dance lessons, croquet and horseshoe tournaments, and lawn games. A maypole will close the event and commemorate the start of the growing season on the plantation. Admission is free.
